Camp Jubilee Expands to Two Weeks

Mount Jubilee Ministries’ cornerstone program, Camp Jubilee, expanded to two weeks this summer, responding to increased demand and consistent waitlists from previous years. “Having experienced a waitlist for the past couple of years, it only made sense to host a second week,” said Candice Hughes, MJM’s Camp Director. The task of recruiting 80 camp counselors was initially daunting, but Hughes emphasized their faith in God’s provision, eased the challenge.

Founded in 2005 with just 5 campers and 6 volunteers, Camp Jubilee has grown tremendously and remains a highlight for its campers year after year. This summer continued that legacy with remarkable success.

Week One: Mountain Top Youth Camp Held at Mountain Top Youth Camp, the first week hosted 29 campers and 29 counselors. A cherished tradition, the camp featured theatrical Bible stories by Andy Burgess and vibrant praise and worship sessions twice daily. The worship experience is often described as “the closest to heaven you can get on earth!” A standout event was the visit from Winston-Salem’s Abilities Tennis team, offering a morning of adaptive tennis. Other activities included refreshing swims in the mountain spring-fed pool, crafts, team-building exercises, games, and cherished downtime. The talent show and campfire were once again highlights of the week.

Week Two: Betsy Jeff Penn 4H Educational Center The second week, held at the Betsy Jeff Penn 4H Educational Center, saw a larger turnout with 51 campers and 51 counselors. This venue, known for its accessibility, provided a wide array of engaging activities. Archery, canoeing, horse petting, volleyball, and other games topped the list of camper favorites. The crafts team helped campers create custom-designed steppingstones as keepsakes. A volunteer team from Osborne Baptist Church provided a special counselor meal on Saturday evening. Ice cream sundaes provided by Fairview Baptist Church were enjoyed by everyone prior to the annual talent show on Tuesday evening.

Both weeks of Camp Jubilee left campers and counselors alike with cherished memories, a sense of inclusion, community and accomplishment, underscoring its ongoing success and the importance of its expansion.
