Celebrating the Jabe Wilhoit Award

The Jabe Wilhoit Award was established at Camp Jubilee in 2021 to honor the memory of Jabe Wilhoit, a beloved counselor who tragically passed away in a car accident in December 2020. Jabe had volunteered at the camp for three summers and left a lasting impact on the campers through his dedication and servants’ heart. To commemorate his selfless character, the award recognizes a counselor who exemplifies the same Christ-like qualities Jabe displayed.

The recipient of the Jabe Wilhoit Award for Camp Jubilee Week One is Jabe’s own brother, Noah Wilhoit. Inspired by Jabe, Noah began volunteering at Camp Jubilee the summer following his brother’s passing. Over three summers of volunteering, Noah has demonstrated a deep commitment to his campers, notably going above and beyond this year to ensure his camper, Seth, had an unforgettable experience. His actions showed that he took the Biblical call to “serve one another” to heart, living out the values that the award was created to celebrate.

Noah is also an active member of his church, Central Church of God in Charlotte, where he is involved in the youth program and mission teams. In addition to his camp service, Noah is pursuing his education at Living Word Academy while dual enrolling at Central Piedmont Community College, with plans to study Business Administration. Like his brother Jabe, Noah is excelling in sports, playing baseball for the Charlotte Stampede homeschool league.

The award not only celebrates Noah’s dedication but also serves as a meaningful tribute to Jabe’s legacy of service and love at Camp Jubilee.

The recipient of the Jabe Wilhoit award for Camp Jubilee Week Two is Chelsea Renth. Chelsea’s journey with MJM began several years ago when she volunteered as a face painter at the annual Family Fun Walk. Her passion for service quickly blossomed, leading her to take on additional behind-the-scenes roles, culminating in her role as a counselor this summer.

From the moment she joined the team, Chelsea was captivated by the campers and heroes, making it an easy decision to accept the counselor position. Her bond with Joanna, her camper for the week, was particularly special, and her dedication to empowering and serving Joanna was evident throughout the camp experience.

While Chelsea has a background in education, she found her true calling in housekeeping, where for fifteen years she has made others feel at home. Her profound love for the Lord shines through in her service to others, providing her with refuge and comfort. Active in fellowship at Reidsville Bible Chapel, Chelsea generously shares her gifts with her community.

Congratulations, Chelsea! Your heart for service and commitment to our campers make you a deserving recipient of this honor. Thank you for all that you do!
